Lions Club and Music Festival light the streets - The Pike County Courier

Published Nov 7, 2014 at 2:33 pm (Updated Nov 7, 2014)

- Every year the Milford Lions Club lights up the streets of Milford for the holidays beginning on the first Saturday of November.

Volunteers string lights in all the trees in anticipation of the annual tree lighting, which will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Community House at the corner of Broad and Harford Streets. The Lions also put up the tree on the lawn and light the star at Milford Knob. The lights continue to shine through the holidays and into February.

While this is a labor of love according to Milford Lion Bill Harkness, it also take money. This year the Milford Music Festival donated $500 to the effort, raised at their annual Share the Harvest event in September. They are also seeking additional volunteers to help the crew string the lights.

The Lions will be meeting each Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. at the Community House and would love some more help. Contact Bill Harkness at bghark@ptd.net with any questions or to volunteer. Monetary contributions are also welcome.

The festivities for the Tree Lighting begin at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, with cookies, hot chocolate and carols by the Ding Del Choir with Santa arriving by 5:15. Hosted by the Milford Music Festival, this event is made possible with help from the Milford Fire Department, A.B.A.T.E Pike County Chapter and local businesses as well as the Milford Lions Club.

Since 2010, the Music Festival as sponsored numerous events including the Milford Music Festival in June, SeptemberFest, Share the Harvest and the annual Tree Lighting. Check its Facebook page or website: milfordmusicfest.org.

Chartered in 1952, the Milford Lions Club involves members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind. Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.
