In case there were any doubt, Tortuga Music Festival 2015 is a hot ticket: The first wave early-bird tickets that went on sale at 10 a.m. Friday were gone 90 minutes later.
And they haven't even named a headliner for the April 11-12 festival on Fort Lauderdale beach.
No specifics on how many tickets moved, but a festival source put it in the 'thousands.'
'Anticipation for the festival appears to be at an all-time high,' trumpeted A.J. Niland, founder and CEO for New Orleans-based promoter HUKA Entertainment, in a press blurb. Niland said an announcement on talent and more advance ticket sales is imminent.
The early-bird tickets for this round were $139 for a two-day pass ($579 for two-day VIP and $979 for Super VIP), in line with last year's prices ($145, $599 and $999). Single-day tickets became available closer to the event in 2013 and 2014.
In its previous two festivals, Tortuga has featured the likes of Luke Bryan,Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Jake Owen, Dierks Bentley, Sheryl Crow, Train, Brantley Gilbert, Grace Potter, the Avett Brothers, Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite, Ziggy Marley and Slightly Stoopid.
The festival, created by Nashville music veteran and former Fort Lauderdale resident and diver Chris Stacey's Rock the Ocean Foundation, also supports marine research and conservation, taking its name from the sea turtles that nest annually along the South Florida coast. It includes the Conservation Village, with such organizations as the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, Shark Savers, Sea Turtle Oversight Protection, Florida Fishing Academy and Bonefish Tarpon Trust.
