Who to see at Treasure Island Music Festival - SFGate (blog)

The best thing about the way the Treasure Island Music Festival is set up is that you never have to miss an act. With two stages within close proximity of each other and alternating set times throughout the two-day concert in the middle of the bay, you never have to do anything more than turn your head from one direction to another to see all the great music.

This year's lineup offers plenty with headliners Outkast and Massive Attack, plus a load of buzz acts like Zedd, the New Pornographers, Janelle Monae, Washed Out, St. Lucia, Jungle, Classixx, White Denim, Ryan Hemsworth and others.

Of course, there are a lot of distractions, too, such as the Ferris wheel, Silent Frisco and booths offering everything from free haircuts to D.I.Y. jewelry making.

So how to negotiate it all? The Bold Italic offers a handy guide on what to pack for the festival while the KQED Arts blog gives valuable advice on getting there and staying warm.

We, meanwhile, provide you with a list of the acts not to miss while you take it all in.

St. Lucia, 'Elevate' Fronted by the former South African-born choirboy Jean-Philip Grobler, this Brooklyn based band now makes electro-pop music that sounds like it was transported here straight from 1983.

Janelle Monae, 'Cold War' Her concerts always leave fans breathless, especially when she jumps from her own dizzying songs to electrifying covers of tunes by the likes of Prince and Michael Jackson.

Banks, 'Drowning' Los Angeles-based singer Jillian Banks makes moody dance music of the best variety, with a little assist from producers like Jamie Woon, Lil Silva and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Chet Faker, 'Love and Feeling' Nick Murphy, who records as Chet Faker, is up for the Producer Of The Year prize at the ARIA Awards in his native Australia for his breakthrough debut album, 'Built on Glass.' It's only a matter of time before America catches up.

Massive Attack, 'Risingson' This British act is best known for birthing several new genres in the 90s by fusing hip-hop and dance music but the innovation never stops. Seeing them live is often described as a religious experience (without all the weird guilt).
