City officials to vote on extending Hangout Music Festival through 2020 - Birmingham Business Journal

City officials in Gulf Shores will vote on a possible extension for the Hangout Music Festival through 2020.

The festival has already received approval for 2015, according to a report from AL.com, but city officials will hold a vote on Oct. 14 to decide if the three-day music festival will be extended for five more years.

The festival began in 2010 in Gulf Shores, with headliners Trey Anastasio, Zac Brown Band and John Legend.

The event is a major booster for tourism, bringing 40,000 people and an estimated $45 million economic impact in and around the Gulf Shores area. This is made possible by performance lineups that Alabama listeners want to hear. The Hangout Music Festival in 2014 featured musical acts Outkast, The Black Keys and The Killers, to name a few.

Other cities competing to provide a venue for the festival include Pensacola, Fla., and Biloxi, Miss.
