Festival will bring music and fun to downtown Corning

Nineteenth annual Harvest Music Festival will bring live jazz and country music to downtown Corning.

Smooth jazz, hot country, cold beer and mellow wine.

Mix all of them together and what do you get? The 19th annual Harvest Music Festival in downtown Corning.

The festival will bring live music and a host of family-oriented activities to Centerway Square and neighboring environs in downtown Corning on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The festival, which will feature jazz musician Jon Seiger and country music artist Pam Tillis, is organized by Corning's Gaffer District.

'The Harvest Music Festival is one of the favorites because there is so much variety, whether you are a fan of jazz or country. We have exceptional artists performing for free,' said Gaffer District Executive Director Coleen Fabrizi. 'The Finger Lakes wine and craft beer tasting is one of our most popular features on Friday night.

'This also a great family event. We have a farmers' market and a scarecrow scavenger hunt,' Fabrizi said. 'The antique tractor show is a new addition this year. You can't get more 'harvesty' than that. Even if you are not someone who farms, they are beautiful antique machinery that people have taken a great deal of care to restore. It's a lot of fun.'

Many downtown businesses will offer shopping promotions during the festival, Fabrizi said. Forty-plus restaurants in the area will give visitors plenty of opportunity to satisfy everyone's palate and price range, she said.

With the exception of wine and craft beer tasting Friday night, all events are free and open to the public.

Elmira Savings Bank is back as presenting title sponsor. Guthrie Corning Hospital, Visions Hotels and WENY-TV are also participating sponsors.

'Elmira Savings Bank is pleased to be the title sponsor for the 2014 Harvest Music Festival,' said bank President and CEO Thomas M. Carr. 'The Gaffer District has continued to expand this annual event, helping to grow its popularity.'
