Popular Connecticut Music Festival reports no major incidents, despite ...

BRIDGEPORT- Music festivals took place all over the north-east this weekend. Some of the popular events saw arrests and even drug overdoses, recently nationwide, many incidents have drawn some concern about the safety of concert goers.

Sunday marked the final day for one of Connecticut's biggest annual music festivals.

The 19 th annual 'Gathering of the Vibes' at Bridgeport's Seaside Park saw between 20,000-30,000 people all weekend.

'Everything I saw was really calm. Everyone was having a good time,' said Gunner Rainford, who attended the festival on Sunday.

Despite the big crowds- festival organizers believe there were fewer arrests and citations this year-down from previous years. In 2013- police arrested In 23 on drug charges.

Last year's festival took particularly tragic turn, when a 40-year-old man died of an apparent overdose while at the event.

'The issues have been so minuscule. Every morning we have a debriefing of the last 24 hours with city, state and officials. This has been if I could say it a flawless 'gathering of the vibes 'event,' said festival founder Ken Hayes.

It was a different story- at a music festival in Maryland.

A North Carolina man died and 20 people were hospitalized due to apparent drug overdoses during an all-day block party music festival in Maryland, authorities said on Saturday. Tyler Fox Viscardi, 20, of Raleigh, North Carolina, died after being taken to the hospital at 9 p.m. local time Friday after he attended an all-day Mad Decent Block Party festival in Columbia, about 20 miles southwest of Baltimore, the Howard County Police Department said in a statement.

More than 20 people were treated for drug overdoses

'It's a big thing that's focused on. Kind of a negative view on the festivals,' said Everest Rainford, a music fan who attended Gathering of the Vibes

Chicago Police arrested 13 over two days during Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival.

According to the Chicago Tribune, one of the suspects was carrying more than 150 pills of MDMA, also known as ecstasy.

Bridgeport Police have not yet released how many arrests and citations occurred at the 2014 Gathering of the Vibes.
