SEASIDE HEIGHTS - A touring electronic musical festival may not be welcome back in Seaside Heights after mass arrests and medical emergencies plagued the event during its first visit to the borough Saturday and Sunday.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office reported that 35 adults were arrested during the Electric Adventure concert on the beach, 20 of them related to drug possession and distribution. In addition, three juveniles were charged with possession of controlled substances. Police arrested four other juveniles on lesser charges.
The majority of the sick concertgoers were treated by medical personnel on site and a few of those arrested were jailed, according to the prosecutor's office.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor, estimated 6,000 people attended the show. He said concert organizers did not communicate sufficiently with law enforcement and explain how to prepare for the event.
'This was the first time this concert was held in Seaside Heights and the prosecutor is not happy with the way this event went down and we don't know whether we want it back there,' said Della Fave. 'Law enforcement was advised of this event on Wednesday, three days before the show and we did not receive intelligence reports or any kind of pre-notice about the types of issues they usually have at these concerts.'
Authorities knew that there would be an influx of visitors so a strong police presence was on scene throughout the show, with coverage from the Sheriff's Department, the New Jersey State Police, the Ocean County Regional Swat Team and the Seaside Heights Police Department.
Electric Adventure was held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson in 2012 and 2013 without incident.
Detective Steve Korman of the Seaside Heights Police Department did not reply to emails requesting additional information about the incident. The organizers of the Electric Adventure concert were unavailable for comment.
