Weekend music festivals include Black Potatoe, Briggs Farm and Maidencreek ...

It's summer, and as dependable as hot weather, fresh vegetables and thundershowers is an abundance of music festivals.

There are three in the area this week, offering a wide variety of tunes:

*The 18 th annual Black Potatoe Music Festival promises music 'from New Jersey to New Orleans to Nashville,' with 42 acts playing rock, jazz, blues and folk on two stages through Sunday at The Red Mill Museum, 56 Main St, Clinton, N.J.

This year's headliner is Rumble and Twang, an all-star roots-rockabilly-rock 'n' roll band featuring 'Conan' show band leader Jimmy Vivino, former Stray Cats bassist Lee Rocker and 'David Letterman Show' drummer Anton Fig. The band plays at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Tickets are $25 a day or $85 for a full-festival pass at http://ift.tt/1lVIWTd or at the gate. Ages 12 and younger are free. Bring blankets or chairs. Info: 908-391-0769.

*Also in its 18 th year is the Briggs Farm Blues Festival, off Route 239 near Interstate 80 and 81 in Nescopeck Township, Luzerne County.

It features 18 acts on Friday and Saturday, headlined by 2014 Blues Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Shaw, who was bandleader/saxophonist for Howlin' Wolf; Gabriel Butterfield Blues Band, featuring the son of late, great rock harmonica player Paul Butterfield; and Cuban-born singer/guitarist Eddie Turner.

Tickets are $23 a day, $40 for both days; $80 for both days and camping. Info: http://ift.tt/VZCndC or 570-379-3342.

*The sixth annual Maidencreek Old-time Music Festival is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday July 13 at Maier's Grove, off Route 73 near Blandon.

The festival offers more than 20 classes on fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer and other instruments traditional to old-time music, and a half-dozen concerts. Dave Fry will give an afternoon class on performing for children, then a concert at night.

On the schedule are Don Pedi, recognized among the best lap dulcimer players in the country; multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Frank Lee, and fiddler Barb Schmid, a featured act from last year's Lyons Fiddle Festival, teaching intermediate-advanced fiddle.

Advance tickets at http://www.mcotmf.org are $10 for concerts only, $35 for workshops only and $40 for both. At the gate: $10, $40 and $50, respectively. Ages 12 and younger are free.
